Youth Sunday school curriculum is a key part of the growth of your student ministry. But in order for it to have its full effectiveness the key is small groups. Small groups give your students an opportunity to truly feel a sense of community and digest the material.  While we always do like to think big, big is not always the best situation, especially for your bible study hour. While you do want your group to grow large it starts with great small groups. Due to lack of leaders your small groups may hit around ten people but at this point I would look into splitting them into another group if possible.  This will be difficult but in the end it will keep your group healthy. Also know that if you use a master teacher format this large group time is fine and is important but know that the small group time and the leaders in that time are key to the health of your ministry.

In teaching youth Sunday School curriculum you will deal with students from hard places from time to time. These students will be difficult to reach and at times may even act towards you in a hurtful way. This means that humility is going to be vital if you are going to effectively minister to them.  Because your natural reaction will be to react in anger or be done with them. But if you will humble yourself you will realize that what you are facing does not compare to what they are going through and especially not what Christ endured for you. This attitude will help you to react in the proper way so that you can react in love and faithfully serve those whom you have been called to reach for as long as you are called.  If you can do this difficult thing you will see far greater results and effectiveness in your ministry than if you reacted in the natural way.

Wed, 28 Mar 2012 04:46:00 -0700 Youth Sunday School Curriculum- In The Word http://youth-sunday-school-curriculum.posterous.com/youth-sunday-school-curriculum-in-the-word http://youth-sunday-school-curriculum.posterous.com/youth-sunday-school-curriculum-in-the-word

It is impossible to teach youth Sunday school curriculum, and guide students through the word, unless you are in the word yourself. This is because if you are not deepening in your relationship with God and digging into the word then you will have nothing to pour out into your students. It is like trying to drive a car on empty or going into a water fight with a bone dry water gun.  Both exercises would be pointless and futile.  The same is true as you teach your bible study or small group.  You must be getting filled in the word everyday so that you are prepared for the situations and discussions that may arise with truth from God.  Now I understand there will be moments where we are going through difficult times and may be in a spiritual desert regardless of what we do. And in these times we need to be open and honest about our struggles because there can be a teachable moment in that also.  But even in that, in order for you to be the best leader you can be, you must daily dig into God’s word as if your life depended on it, because it does.

Wed, 28 Mar 2012 04:44:00 -0700 Youth Sunday School Curriculum- Invisible Rewards http://youth-sunday-school-curriculum.posterous.com/youth-sunday-school-curriculum-invisible-rewa http://youth-sunday-school-curriculum.posterous.com/youth-sunday-school-curriculum-invisible-rewa

Teaching youth Sunday School Curriculum can be a very trying task. At times your students will not be engaged in discussion, you will not feel like they are learning anything and you will not  feel like you are seeing life change. But you must persevere. You must stick with them and see your students to the end, regardless of the outcomes you are seeing. Your students need consistency and they need to see someone stick with them in their lives. And the best way to do this that I know of is to keep the invisible rewards in mind. Yes there are the eternal rewards that we will see in Heaven because of the seeds that we faithfully planted, but I am speaking more of the rewards we will probably not see here on Earth where these students lives will be changed long after they are out of our small groups.   We must keep this in mind and remember that even though it may not be today, some day the work that we do will pay off in incredible fruit  for the Kingdom of God.

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

As a teacher of youth Sunday school curriculum I have found many things to be true about students. One of the biggest ones is that they will do whatever it takes to excuse their behavior and have you approve of what they are doing.  This can be done by anything from distorting scripture to playing what if and hypothetical games. But I have found one thing in all of these situations to be very important. You have to be tough with them.  This may not be the case with a new student, but with one you have a relationship with and you know has a decent understanding of their faith, you have to stop them in their tracks and speak the truth. This may seem difficult and you may be afraid you are turning them away, but the costs are too high to let things slide.  Our students live in an anything goes world and we need to show them the truth in scripture about how they should live. And we know need to show them how that truth does not change regardless of the scenario or situation.  We need to be tough in love and redirect them in the way they should go.

A big part of teaching youth Sunday school curriculum is helping your students take the next step in their faith.  It is about taking the lessons they are learning and giving them opportunities to live them out in their daily lives. While some of these opportunities come naturally and you mainly just need to help your students recognize these opportunities when they come around, it can also be helpful to create some of these opportunities for service.  A great way to do this is through mission trips or mission projects.  While it could be difficult to organize a national mission trip or international one depending on your role and/or your budget, putting together a local mission trip can be quite easy and very benerficail.  All you have to do is look around at the needs in your community.  Think through your students' interests and what sort of activities they might like to participate in.  Then find an opportunity to serve.  There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer at various places or you could just go out and do your own thing. The main point is to ensure that you are getting your students out serving and supporting and enriching the learning that is taking place in your small group.

Tue, 31 Jan 2012 06:15:00 -0800 Youth Sunday school Curriculum- The bigger picture http://youth-sunday-school-curriculum.posterous.com/youth-sunday-school-curriculum-the-bigger-pic http://youth-sunday-school-curriculum.posterous.com/youth-sunday-school-curriculum-the-bigger-pic

In teaching youth Sunday School curriculum you really must think about the bigger picture.  Here is what I mean.  Most Sunday schools or bible studies last for about one hour and of that hour fifteen minutes is devoted to hanging out or doing announcements.  This leaves at most forty-five minutes for actualy stud.  This means two things. The first is that if your students are truly going to grow then they must study beyond the hour you are with them. Also, the majority of their lives happens outside of the church.  We must keep these two realities in mind as teachers and leaders. We must remember that we do not have much time with our students so we must train and equip them to study the word of God outside of our sunday School hours. We also must realize that they will be living their lives out in the world so we must prepare them for this battle and challenge them to live the right way and make an impact on those around them. We must fight the urge to make things center around your bible study hour but instead help your students see the bigger picture of what is going on in their lives and what their lives should look like.

Mon, 30 Jan 2012 07:38:00 -0800 Youth Sunday School Curriculum- Discussion http://youth-sunday-school-curriculum.posterous.com/youth-sunday-school-curriculum-discussion http://youth-sunday-school-curriculum.posterous.com/youth-sunday-school-curriculum-discussion

For a long time, when I taught youth Sunday School curriculum I had this crazy idea that it was all about my teaching.  Therefore, if I was given an hour then I would make sure to speak for an hour.  While I am sure some knowledge was passed along and I hope some impact was made, I have now found that this is not the best teaching practice.  As a teacher of a Sunday School class or bible study group our goal should not be to show off our knowledge and teaching skill.  While these things are important they alone are not what is going to make the time we have with our students the most effective it can be.  Instead our goal should be to open up discussion.  Then from there we will be able to hear our students hearts, their questions and their struggles.  Then with that knowledge we can use our gifts and knowledge to speak truth into their lives and bring scripture to life for them.  This type of model and practice will revolutionize your time with your small group and will make a lasting impact on your students.

Wed, 25 Jan 2012 06:34:00 -0800 Youth Sunday School Curriculum- Supply And demand http://youth-sunday-school-curriculum.posterous.com/youth-sunday-school-curriculum-supply-and-dem http://youth-sunday-school-curriculum.posterous.com/youth-sunday-school-curriculum-supply-and-dem

Supply and demand is an economic term that deals with explaining why products sell, when they sell, and at what price.  But this phrase can be used in the ministry world in a different contacts.  Scripture demands something of us.  What it demands is that we build disciples.  We have no choice but to fulfill this responsibility.  So where does the supply come in? Well we want to provide you with the resources you need to fulfill this demand.  We want to provide you not only youth Sunday School curriculum but other materials that will help you disciple your students beyond one hour in a small group bible study setting.  All of our curriculum has companion devotionals so that your students can continue to dig into the word throughout the week.  Also, much of our lessons have exra material that we do not expect you to have time to get to but instead expect you to be able to use for extra study with your students at other times.  So I encourage you to check out our studies and see what we can supply to help you meet the demands of ministry.

Wed, 25 Jan 2012 04:43:00 -0800 Youth Sunday School Curriculum- Master Teacher Format http://youth-sunday-school-curriculum.posterous.com/youth-sunday-school-curriculum-master-teacher http://youth-sunday-school-curriculum.posterous.com/youth-sunday-school-curriculum-master-teacher

When it comes to Youth Sunday School Curriculum you will see that it comes in several formats.  One of the more popular curriculum formats right now is the master teacher format.  The phrase master teacher can be misleading though so I want to take a few moments to explain just what this phrase means.  Basically this format involves having a single teacher, called the master teacher, teach for 15-30 minutes.  Then students break up into small groups for discussion.  The teacher does not necessarily have to be a master but having a teaching gift does help. This format is nice though because you do not have to have as many teachers since your small group leaders can simply just love investing in students and not have to be gifted teachers.  Hopefully this brief explanation will help you understand what to expect when you see the phrase master teacher and whether or not this format of study will meet your needs.

If you are like me, before you buy a youth Sunday School curriculum you want to know something about those who created it.  You probably will do a little background research to find out what they do and what they are about.  Well I will save you some time and tell you that we are student pastors just like you.  We are pouring into students’ lives every day so you can be assured that anything that we write comes out of that heart and the relationships we have built with our students. We have seen other curriculums and have felt the frustration I am sure you have of feeling that it is out of touch or does not quite make the right connections.  That is why we have created this site and this curriculum. We have had real conversations with students, seen how they learn, and want to equip you with the resources to reach those students who are in your ministry just as we are reaching ours.
